Best mineral/protiens for Deer Antler Growth?
I hunt on a family friends land in Columbus Texas,theres a decent amount of deer there on about 400 acers. there are cattle on the land and it floods sometimes. What i am wanted to know is what is the best type of Mineral blocks or Protien or Feed to put out for the deer to help grow bigger Antlers and healthy deer. i live to far away to do any type of food plot. im looking for something that i can put out and leave,not really have to have the property owner mess with it to much.
Like i said my main goal is to get bigger antler growth,and heathly deer,without have to mess with it too much. i was told that something called 12:12 works good along with some Trace Mineral Blocks…and they would last a good 6 months. that would be perfect if i was sure it wasnt going to hurt the deer.
Any Ideas?
I would just get a mineral block for cattle and put it where the deer can find it. I have a salt lick that I maintain in the same place. Every year or two,I dig down about 8″and about 18″in diameter. I get a 50 lb bag of cattle salt,a 5 lb of Epson salts,and a 5 lb bag of bone meal. I back fill the hole with the stuff and dirt. It will last a year or two. The salt attracts the deer,and the magnesium and phosphorus is used to grow heavy antlers. My nephew got a heavy 11 pt and my son got a heavy 8pt this year,and compared to previous years I think it played a role in the heavier racks.
